cool ≠ cold

那天在街上碰見舊公司攝影部的同事,
大家寒暄了幾句。
原來他現已轉投另一月刊去了,
身邊那位女子大概是該雜誌的時裝部
記者或編輯吧。

雖然互不認識,但是有點面善,
我禮貌上還是跟她微笑了一下。

誰知這女的,竟報以一副
不屑嘴臉,
然後裝作看我不見,把那衰臉別過去,
很不耐煩似的。

真好笑。

世上怎麼會有這些沒教養的人?

其他行業我不清楚,
也不要細數街上擦肩而過的陌生人,
就是本地所謂
潮流雜誌的那撮,
我已見過不少自以為很酷的。

滿身當季最“潮”衫褲鞋襪,
手挽過萬元名牌包包,
面掛大得誇張的墨鏡,
自覺很型很酷,信心爆棚,
其實全都沒罪呀!

選擇幹時裝圈子的,
都得承認是某程度上的虛榮作祟。

可是他們有沒有發覺,
being cool跟being cold

其實
是兩碼子的事呢?

連簡單的招呼也不會,
最基本的禮貌也沒有,
談什麼酷?

當然,我
自問絕對不是一名交際能手,
甚至可以說是不擅於任何社交應酬之輩,
真的不曉得自己怎麼會跑了去當記者?!
可是從小我便知道,
見到長輩要叫人,
遇到認識的人要打招呼之餘,
還要介紹自己身邊的人。

這是對人最基本的尊重。

不過我發現,現在愈來愈少人會這樣做了。

很記得曾當過我上司的Adele的一番話,
“嘗試一下,在街上對所有跟你迎面而來的人微笑,
可能十個人之中,十個也會當你是傻子,
不過第十一個人可能會對你回之以微笑。”

真的,微笑一下並不會花你很多力氣。
對方沒反應嗎?不打緊。
可是當別人也同樣地對你微笑的時候,
你所接收到的正能量,
其實正正便是你自己傳遞出去的。

世界已經夠糟夠亂的了,
簡單的一個微笑,
可能已是大家最需要的東西。

homemade sweetness

the other day i bought some sweet plums from the fruit stall at the corner of my block, ate a couple with mr.beehive that night, and then totally forgot about their existence...

until yesterday when i opened the vegetable compartment of the fridge, and saw these poor little plumpy jewels of juicy redness hanging in there, i knew i HAD to do something about it...

turns out making homemade jam is so ridiculously easy & simple that you wouldn't even believe it! all you need is some fruits (in my case... plums), water & sugar. and that's about it!

steps
1. cut the washed plums in half, and remove the stones.

2. cut plums into small pieces. (you may want to remove the skin after cooking, but i like the slight sourness of it.)

3. add water into the pan until it starts bubbling.

4. add plums to the pan. simmer until the fruit is pulpy, stir in brown sugar and bring it to a boil until it reaches setting point.

5. remove from the heat, pour mixture onto a cold plate (place it in fridge in advance) and let it cool down.

6. jam is set when you run your finger through it and leave a crinkly track mark. if after two minutes the cooled jam is still too liquidy, continue to boil the jam until you have the right set. (i like it slightly runny though, it tastes more delicious.)

tips
- you can use any sorts of berries, stone fruits (peaches, apricots, nectarines, plums), citrus (orange, lemon, lime) or even apples and figs, whichever that suits your tastebuds.

- some recipes say that in order to enhance the flavor, you may crack some of the stones, remove the kernels and add them to the boiling water. just make sure you remove the kernels from the jam before potting.

- sterilising the jars (which i totally forgot about at my very first homemade jam attempt!!!) is simple. just boil the jars and lids for 5 - 10 minutes in water, and they are ready for pot, cover and label.

妙哉?


miu miu F/W 1997

很懷念以前的miu miu。

Audrey Marnay身上這件97秋冬系列灰色波點格子絨褸,
當年曾經擁有過一件短版的。


一直以為還在衣櫃茫茫衫海中,
那天回家想把它拯救出來,讓其重見天日。
豈料原來最愛丟東西的母親大人,
(她女兒則最愛儲東西,雖然我倆都是處女座!)
斷定它款式過了時,又認定我不會再穿,
早已把它當作舊衣送給別人

最要命的是,奉命接收這件妙妙的人,
還要是一個貌似Eurythmics主音
Annie Lennox的八十多歲阿嬷。
不過還好這位Auntie身形超窈窕的,
大概會很合身吧?!
只是她臉上老是掛著一副超大烏蠅太陽鏡,
好像跟dot柄有點格格不入...
也希望她沒有再把這件繆斯亞太太真跡
轉送給隔離屋師奶啦...
唉...

忽然很想重溫的電影...
後悔當天沒有在Kubrick買下
這隻售$480(!!!)的DVD...
不知當年租LD時
dup下來的VHS還

在不在老家某角落深處?
發霉了沒有...?
起了雪花沒有...?
世上到底有誰還有運作正常的錄影帶機?

那隻曾灶財式塗鴉紅底紙套封面soundtrack
大概還在房中那疊封了塵的CD堆中吧!
